Where the Action Is 1965 - Love Is Strange, The Everly Brothers
Airdate: October 12, 1965, Tuesday.
Season 2, Episode 22 - ABC
The Everly's cover of "Love is Strange" (one of my favorite Everly Brothers songs) only made it to 128 on Billboard, but it did get to #11 in the U.K. Last month, Sept. '65, they performed a live version on "Shindig!"
The Action Kids: Steve Ciro, Jerilyn Stapleton, Roger Minami, Lesley Evans, Mike Williams, Roberta Tennes, Pete Menafee, Jill Gordon, and Joy Ciro.
Location: Port of Los Angeles, CA near the Wilmington oil fields. The ship is the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk (CVA-63, later CV-63) as identified by @SSN515. In 7 days from this episode’s airing, she will ship out to Vietnam.
Thank you to @jthyme7940, Gary, the Don to my Phil, (lol) for helping me get this clip posted.
I love sharing these classic clips and hearing from the ol' gang. Posting is still a blast! I hope to have more clips to share soon.
Thank you for watching!

Swingin' Time 1966 - Bus Stop, The Hollies and Closing Theme
Переглядів 16 тис.10 місяців тому
Airdate: September 17, 1966 Here's another Bandstand-like teen dance show that were so ubiquitous back in the 60’s. Swingin’ Time was broadcast from CKLW Channel 9 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and also seen in Detroit (just across the Detroit River). Hosted by Detroit radio legend Robin Seymour, the show ran from 1965 to 1968. If you’d like to see the whole episode, which includes guests Bob Seg...
American Bandstand 1967 - Maverick's Flat, Freddy Cannon
Переглядів 8 тис.11 місяців тому
Airdate: April 1, 1967 Here are a few nice, clear shots of the '67 AB dancers clapping along with Freddy. I spotted Stan Soburn, Jeff Stein, Theodosia Dayton, Bernie Kates, Diana Bower, Rick Kline, Leonard Smith, Sue Rose, Famous Hooks and Frank Vanderpuil. In a few minutes Frank and Judy Michaud will win the 1967 Swing Dance Contest. (Don Sanuskar is here somewhere too but probably just out of...
Where the Action Is - 1965 - Tina Turner - Gonna Have Fun, Ike & Tina Turner
Переглядів 13 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: October 7, 1965 RIP Tina Turner, a true legend. Tina, The Action Kids, Bandstand Regular Famous Hooks and some local kids dance to one of Ike and Tina’s lesser known, but upbeat songs. They are dancing at the 60’s teen dance club It’s Boss, formerly Ciro’s (later Ciro’s Le Disc) and currently The Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Many music acts played at It’s Boss before ...
American Bandstand 1969 - Rate A Record - The Chambers Brothers/Art & Honey
Переглядів 13 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: December 20, 1969 This is from the Christmas episode that was unearthed last year thanks to Cathy Hicks (dancing here at 1:30) With the dancing, fashions, and 2 great songs, this might be my all-time favorite rate-a-record, especially for one without a hit song. How cool would it be to see this in color (and no timestamp) Neither of these 2 songs ever charted, but to my ear, they both ...
American Bandstand 1964 - I Don't Want To See You Again, Peter & Gordon
Переглядів 12 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: October 24, 1964 This is probably as close as I'll ever get to posting the kids dancing to a Beatles song - Paul McCartney composed, British Invasion group, 1964...so close. I've actually tried posting this clip a couple of times years ago and YT's unfeeling, song detecting software, living in a world without love, blocked it - probably because it's a "Lennon-McCartney" song. No idea w...
American Bandstand 1968 - Makeup for men? - I Can Take Or Leave Your Loving, Herman's Hermits
Переглядів 18 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: February 17, 1968 It's the end of the road here for Herman's Hermits' phenomenal chart success. Their cover of “I Can Take Or Leave Your Loving” will be their last Top 40 single in the U.S. It peaks at #22 today on the Hot 100. (#1 in Canada) The Bandstand Regulars I spotted today: Al Allegre (men will wear makeup "for the benefit of man"), Roberta Simon, Forrest Hutchins, and (that) M...
American Bandstand 1968 - Spotlight Dance - Spooky, Classics IV
Переглядів 20 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: January 13, 1968 Lee Duncan, from KYNO Fresno, was right. “Spooky“ will become Dennis Yost and the Classics IV first hit song. It sits at #23 today and will go on to peak at #3 next month. I love the C-IV and this song, but it looks like it might be a bit hard to dance to (and it’s so new, it’s possible some them might have never even heard it before). Even regulars Jim Lyle and Robin ...
American Bandstand 1964 - Record Review - The Belmonts / The Classic 4
Переглядів 42 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: January 18, 1964 From Philadelphia - It’s Mashed Potato, South Street & Pony time! 😊 Here’s The Belmonts, after Dion left and The Classic 4, who would go on to have a stormy, spooky career before they learned roman numerals. 😉 Like the girl judges, I also thought “C’mon Everybody” was pretty catchy (I’ll give it a 82). To me though, both songs sound about 2 years out-of-date especially...
Shebang 1967- Dancing in the Street, Martha & the Vandellas
Переглядів 53 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: April 11, 1967 Shebang was a daily dance show that ran from 1965-1968 on KTLA, channel 5, in Hollywood and a few other markets in syndication. As American Bandstand and Shebang were both Dick Clark productions and taped only 2 miles from each other (Prospect Studios to KTLA), there were often several kids that danced on both shows. The "Bandstanders" I spotted today were: Forrest Hutch...
American Bandstand 1966 -Rate-A-Record -These Boots Are Made For Walkin', Nancy Sinatra/Jewel Akens
Переглядів 16 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: January 15, 1966 While we all know now that "These Boots...." was the hit here, climbing to #1 next month and becoming the 6th most popular song of 1966, how would you have rated it back then? "These Boots..." will enter the Billboard charts next week at #74. Akens’ “Slice of the Pie” never charted. I thought it had a good bassline, a nice “Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch” sorta sound and, well...
American Bandstand 1964 - What's Your Name, Don & Juan
Переглядів 54 тис.Рік тому
Airdate: May 30, 1964 Here at the height of Beatlemania, this 2-year-old classic "old song" probably sounded ancient to these kids. Don & Juan's "What's Your Name" peaked at #7 back in the Spring of 1962. While still early in it's Hollywood run, the show is starting to pick up some “regulars“ such as Frank Loverde, Danny McClane, and Terry Shires, with many more to come. I'm not sure if Famous ...

Having grown up watching Where the Action is, and in the Bay Area, all I can say it was a time of innocence and youth. Or put another was in the lingo of the day, it was all pretty lame. But hey, back then was all we had, and still fun.

In 1969 I was 21 and a new mother. I listened to the radio all the time and never missed American Bandstand. My daughter walked at 9 months and would stand in front of the TV and try to dance. Those were good times. I'm 76 now and love to watch these videos of AB.

Can't those hairdos get any higher than Mt Everest, K2, Mt Witney, Denali in Alaska. Believe it or not these fashions might make a come back in the late 21st century with a hoop skirt from the 19th century. thrown in for measure. Teens look at these teens of the 60's : they are somebody's great grand father or mother.

Oh, did you have to go there you Schwab-Biden globalist? Then here's the counterpoint. NATO and the rest of the West are the bad guys this time. Russia will not allow NATO any closer to its borders than it already is. Tell Zelensky and Biden to get their butts to the tables of peace and start negotiating. Stop looking for a WWIII. Got that? Well do ya...punk! Russia and the rest of a sane less corrupt world get it. Globalists like you better get it too.

@@Dr.Pepper001 We? Are you with that YouCanDanceToIt channel guy who posted this AB video? He had a WTF moment adding his two cents worth in closure of his description siding with corrupt Ukraine in that war using the word "excrement" his feelings toward Russia. Why? Can't figure. But when someone takes a political stand on an issue totally unrelated to AB they'd better be prepared to be spanked. I agree. Of all things politics included in a show about fun and escapism is ridiculous. But that's what this channel guy did giving his unecessary opinion about that war in Ukraine. It was an opportunity to give the other side to the matter objectively. If I wanted to be subjective like he was I would have called his view bullshit. A mere counterpoint sufficed in its place. So that is that. You have a great day of liberty. That's what we all live for.

To me, this is about the lamest dancing, for its time, that I have ever seen. Mostly they all just stand in one place, move their arms up and down as well as kicking their feet out in front of themselves. They can’t be high or they would really be going for it…like the hippie go-go dancers. Wonder what they are so terrible on here?
